Google Analytics for Gmail in Google Apps – Now track your Gmail users

It has been a long pending demand of organization who were asking for the tracking featured for the Gmail in Google Apps. Being in the cloud it becomes more important to know who is accessing your mailing system and how.
For organizations who want to track how their employees are using emails – Google Apps has launched a new feature to integrate Gmail with Google Analytics.
The new feature which is available only for Premier & Education edition customers – helps administrators to view statistics about how their organization is using Gmail. Some of the variables you can track are:
- Users’ locations
- Languages
- Length of visit
This is made possible by linking Gmail with Google Analytics. It may recalled that the Google Analytics statistics are already available from the control panel for – Google Docs & Google Sites.
How to enable Google Analytics for Gmail in Google Apps
- Log in to the administrative control panel in Google Apps
- Go to the ‘Advanced Tools’ tab
- Click ‘Setup Google Analytics’ link
- Enter the Web Property ID number from your Google Analytics account (When you create an account in Google Analytics, the account is provided with a unique ID. This ID is part of the tracking code that inserted in the source code for your website or gadget. For example, a web property ID is UA-10876-1)
- Wait for up to 24 hours

- Sign in to Google Analytics
- Click on appropriate item to view and analyze the data
