Google Apps has added two new features in Google Videos first the ability to add captions to your videos and second the ability to upload videos up to 1 GB in size (increased from the 300 MB previous limit).
Ability to add captions was along pending demand as many especially in corporate and education world wanted to add captions for their audience. Users will be able to understand and find your video more easily if you add captions or subtitles to each video file you’ve uploaded. In this post we will talk on how to add caption to your Google Video.
Google supports a simple subtitle format that is compatible with the formats known as SubViewer (*.SUB) and SubRip (*.SRT). We will be using SubViewer (*.SUB) for this post. The supported format consists of text divided into separate caption (or subtitle) segments, in chronological order. Each caption must have three parts: a timecode, the caption text, and a blank line. Let’s understand these three parts now in details :
Timecode: This specifies when a caption should be started and when it should be stopped. Note that time is always measured from the “start of the video”. You have to view your video and note the timing of captions measures in:
- HH – Hours starting at 00
- MM – Minutes (00-59)
- SS – Seconds (00-59)
- FS – Fractional Seconds (0-999)
Now let see how we write the timecode in SubViewer format:
HH:MM:SS.FS,HH:MM:SS.FS
Here caption display starts at the first time, and stops at the second time.
Caption text: This is one or more lines of text. This text must be UTF-8 encoded so that any language can be supported.
Blank line: a blank line is used to mark the end of each caption.
Now that you understand the Here is step by step process
- You can view your video and note the timings and write the caption according to time.
- Write the code in a text file in the SubViewer format as explained above. Let’s see an example below:
00:03:30.000,00:04:34.000
This is the first sample caption for Google Video. This will be shown starting at 3.30 minutes and will be shown till 4.34 minutes.00:04:35.000,00:05:10.000
This is the first sample caption for Google Video. This will start at 4.35 min and will be shown till 5.10 minutes.00:05:15.000,00:06:30.400
This is the first sample caption for Google Video. This caption will start at 5.15 minutes and will be shown till 6 minutes 30.4 seconds
- One you have written the code in the text file now save it as yourfilename.sub where .sub is the extension which indicated the you are following SubViewer format. Once saved the saved file can be opened to view bt doing a “right click” and “open with” on file name.
- Upload the filw to your Video Status page and click “Add Captions/Subtitles” in the “Actions” column for the selected video.
- Run the video and Test the captions and modify the file if necessary.

Even if I am wrong about the country already having reached this point of no return, where options one and two disappear and only option three remains, I feel that it will reach it very soon. ,
With these commodity’ specific calculations, we then construct country’wide indices. ,
