NTT DOCOMO Develops Solar-powered Handset

DOCOMO or NTT DOCOMO has developed a Solar-powered Handset which will be released in Japan in September. The pricing is not yet known for this SH-08A Mobile Model from DOKOMO. NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced (http://www.nttdocomo.com/pr/2009/001448.html ) today its development of the SOLAR HYBRID (docomo STYLE series™ SH-08A), a solar-powered, waterproof mobile phone that will go on sale in Japan from September.

Hybrid Charging – Charge from sunlight or electricity

The SOLAR HYBRID can be recharged with sunlight as well as electricity. Even if the battery has completely lost its charge, just 10 minutes of solar recharging via a panel on the phone’s body provides approximately one minute of talk time.

Key features of NTT DOCOMO SH-08A Mobile

Camera: 8-megapixel CCD camera that takes excellent photographs even dim lighting or when objects are moving.
Waterproof body: The SOLAR HYBRID’s waterproof body, resistant to water sprays from all directions and submergible to depths up to one meter (IPX5*/IPX7**), enables safe, carefree enjoyment of mobile communication and entertainment in the bath, kitchen, beach, rain or other environments where water is present. IPx5 means safe for water sprayed from 6.3 mm diameter nozzle from 2.5-3 meters (12.5 liters/min.) for 3 minutes.
Water immersion protection: IPx7 standard means it can withstand immersion in water at depth of 1 m for 30 minutes. So even if your child has thrown your mobile in bath tub – it will be up and running when you take it out.
