Google SMS Channels is a new free service from Google that enables channels ( or groups) on SMS. As a subscriber it lets you subscribe to news, alerts, updates and other information such as horoscopes, jokes, stock market updates, cricket scores via SMS text messages. With Google SMS Channels you can also create a channel for free to distribute your content using SMS. Google SMS Channel service by Google labs is currently available only in India. What is best both subscribers and publishers do not pay anything. Cool!
Google SMS Channels is similar to SMS Gupshup. You can create an official channel or can even create a channel for your family, friends and co-workers (private SMS groups not shown to public) on Google SMS channels and stay in touch via SMS without paying any fees to mobile company.
How can I signup for Google SMS Channels?
You can signup for the service by going to the Google SMS Channels site or via your mobile phone. On the web you can sign up using your Google account. You’ll need to input your phone number while signing up. Google will send a verification code via SMS to your phone. You’ll need to input the verification code you received to complete the sign up process.

Using Google SMS Channel from your mobile
To search using your phone, SMS ‘SEARCH <keyword(s)>‘ to 9870807070. For example, send the following SMS to 9870807070 to search for channels that contain the keywords ‘hyderabad weather’ in channel’s title or description: SEARCH hyderabad weather
You’ll be sent up to 3 channels matching your keyword(s) over SMS.
To see more channels, you can reply ‘MORE <keyword(s)>‘.
To subscribe using your phone, SMS ‘ON <channel name>’ to 9870807070. <channel name> is the name of the channel.
For example, if you wanted to subscribe to the GoogleNews channel, you will need to send the following SMS to 9870807070: ON GoogleNews
To unsubscribe to an SMS channel from the phone
SMS off <channel_name> to 9870807070 where is the name of the channel.
