The long-awaited D-Link Boxee Box from the Web TV software company Boxee now switches to an Intel Atom for even more video codec support. It has hit Amazon.com for $199, and you can finally get in line for one. Web coming toTV soon.
The box, which includes a Qwerty-keypad remote, is now being powered by Intel’s CE4100 Atom Processor, the same chip being used in Google TV. Intel Atom Processor supports 3-D graphics and can also stream uncompressed 1080p HD video.
According to the D-Link press release, “The new chip lets the Boxee Box deliver a wide range of applications and ensures support for 1080p content, no matter the source,” suggesting the Tegra 2 may not have offered the same video format flexibility. Boxee has long promoted the Boxee Box as one of the few set-top streamers capable of handling all major video codecs, short of DRM-encrypted ones like those used by the iTunes store.
Features of Boxee Box:

Boxee Box hardware featured a Nvidia Tegra 250 chip, which offers similar specs but at a lower bit rate. This affects the quality of high-profile HD streaming, according to a representative from Boxee.
Two weeks ago the company made an announcement that ad-supported movies would now be available through Boxee’s platform, but only from a small handful of independent and foreign movie companies.
