Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service is finally going to start from 25th November ,2010.

Mobile number portability (MNP) enables mobile telephone users to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another.
If you are changing the mobile operator example from Vodafone to Airtel but you can retain your 10 digit numbers same. You just have to apply through a form and a nominal fees.
“November 25th onwards MNP would be operational partially We wanted to inaugurate it in Haryana,” Mr. Raja told reporters in New Delhi.
