Apple has released iTunes 10.1.1 for both Mac and Windows users.
The new version designed to prevent iTunes from crashing, actually causes iTunes to crash following installation.Upon installing the update, some users are reporting that they are unable to open iTunes without it immediately quitting, effectively locking them out of iTunes.
Apple Insider has reported that “iTunes cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure iTunes works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.”
For now, you may consider postponing updating your iTunes to 10.1.1 until Apple has resolved the issue.
Here’s “what’s new” in iTunes 10.1.1:
- It solves an issue where some music videos may not play on Macs equipped with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 or 9600 graphics.
- Fixes a problem where iTunes may unexpectedly quit when connecting an iPod to a Mac equipped with a PowerPC processor.
- Addresses an issue where some music videos may not sync to an iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
