Sony to compensate customers for PlayStation 3 data breach

Sony’s PlayStation (PSN) Network was hacked Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, They still don’t know exactly what kind of data has hacked and who does this hacking on the PSN servers. Now Sony compensate Customers for data break. What type of data exactly in their hands Sony dont know.

The breach happened between April 17 and 19, but Sony didn’t tell its 77 million customers until April 26 that their personal information, including names, addresses, E-mail addresses, birthdays, PlayStation Network, Qriocity passwords, user names, and online user handles.

Sony to compensate for PSN 3 data breach

Now Hirai’s aim is to restore full services including the PlayStation Store and purchasing features within the month.

First PSN services to come back online will be online game play for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, ability to play downloaded movies from PSN, unexpired movie rentals through PSN, Qriocity and chat functionalities.

Sony provides offers for customers:

  • Free identity theft protection service (will consider)
  • New credit cards will be issued (company will help to customers)
  • Offering free selected downloads
  • 30 days of free PlayStation Plus service
  • Music Unlimited subscribers will also get free service for 30 days.

Sony has some changes in security for customers :

Sony is now with full security, in future Sony doesn’t get any problems for that Sony is changing their security services, it creates a new position of chief security information officer for Sony Computer Entertainment, planned move of data servers from San Diego to a different location with more security, adding automated software monitoring and configuration management, enhancing data encryption, and implementing more firewalls. Hirai is saying this total information to all the users.

Company launched an investigation with some security firms into the incident on its network and shut down the PSN and Qriocity while it rebuilt the security system. Hirai is saying only 10 million of the 70 million PSN accounts had credit cards attached to them. Once the system comes back online, customers will have to download a software update that will require everyone to change their PSN and Qriocity passwords.

Sony’s sincere apologies, for spoiling the customer data and similarly for making services unavailable for an extended period of time he added. So finally Sony restores all the services.

    My PS3, internet connection, 7 computers, and 7 cellphones were hacked into and nobody has ever contacted me about this. I still cannot get online because of this issue.
