LastPass is a good service for users, it adds a browser extension that is supposed to remember all the passwords a user has for various passwords on websites and other things online.
The LastPass company has announced, the service was hacked by outside sources and unspecified amount of data was transferred away from the servers(machines).
LastPass hacked?
LastPass CEO Joe Siegrist says, we don’t think a lot of data could have been taken, not only passwords encrypted data also taken. And, this hacking is from machines that wouldn’t be transferring a lot of data between each other. He feels very bad about hacking, so they decided to go through the worst-possible potential case, more than 100 people blobs have been taken, they don’t know exactly. They are trying to look at problem what is the worst possible case and how we can mitigate any risks coming out of that.
Is it safe to keep your passwords in online services like LastPass?
Somany online account services are there with social media sites like internet services such as mail, discussion boards, online gaming to cite, etc. Better to keep different login and password for each site, one password for every site it is not secured to your account. So maintain different login and passwords. People who are using this LastpassĀ they are getting trouble, to prompt them to enter a new password or send them the link to get a new password via email. LastPass also added one more security that is through the use of any stolen information users have to access the service from an IP that already they have used. The rub here is if you happen to be on an ISP with dynamic IP address and the IP changes, no joy for the user.
LastPass is recommending that all users must change their master passwords. Changing those master passwords has become an issue for some people. A lot of the services on the servers that were involved have also been locked down because of hacking and as a precaution, and they are investigating on hacking.
Depends on this hacking and previously happened one more hacking in a big company Sony (play station 3 data breach) both are big issues, so users be alert to choose a online service and maintain the passwords different to each site.
